Accessing Picture Books From Home

If you’re ever eager to read a new title to your little one but can’t make it to the library, try using Overdrive or Libby to download titles straight to your device!

Step 1: Log onto the library website and search our catalog for the title you’re interested in.

Step 2: Browse results for eBook option.

Step 3: Select ‘Access Here’.

Step 4: By clicking the link, you’ll be taken to the Overdrive Kids page for your title. This page includes the title’s description, author, illustrator, sample, as well as the option to borrow if the title is available. If you wish to borrow the title, click the orange ‘Borrow’ button.

Step 5: You’ll be taken to a sign in page. Begin by selecting Lindenhurst Memorial Library. Please note, like all media, you’ll need a valid library card to borrow eBook titles.

Step 6: Fill out your library barcode and password. If you do not recall your library password, please view the next step.

Step 7: If you don’t know your password, select password help. You will be instructed to enter your library card number. Next a reminder will be sent to the email address attached to that library card. If you do not have an email address on file, please contact us at 631-957-7755 or chat with us on our website. We’ll be happy to help you!

Step 8: Once you have created your new password, return to the Overdrive Kids log in page. From here you can select your library, enter your barcode, and enter your password.

Step 9: Note that you can select your loan period in the dropdown.

Step 11: After clicking the ‘Borrow’ button, you have the option to read the title via Kindle with your phone or tablet, or you may read via your browser on your tablet, phone, or computer.

Step 12: Smile! The title is yours until your loan period ends at which point the title will automatically be returned.

It’s as simple as that! Beyond picture books, you can use this process to search for all different titles – from Adult Non-fiction to Easy Readers and audiobooks. And, as always, you can always contact us at the library to help you!

Happy Reading!
